ASF virus DEtECTED in Gensan

THE City Veterinary Office (CVO) of General Santos City confirmed on Thursday that it has recorded a case of the African swine fever (ASF) in the city. According to CVO chief Dr. Antonio Ephraim Marin, the case was reported from Purok San Lorenzo, Barangay Apopong. Marin said the Department of Agriculture satellite laboratory in Barangay Lagao called him up on January 24 to confirm the case. 'The finding was based on the laboratory test result in a blood sample taken from a backyard swine raiser in the village,' he said. Veterinary authorities in the city, meanwhile, rushed to contain the spread of the virus that could affect the P8-billion industry. Based on a report, a total of 508 hogs have been culled from the affected area since Tuesday.
