AT the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Benjamin Diokno is named the Global Central Banker of the Year 2022. Not only is it the first time that the Philippines wins this prestigious award, the achievement is exceptional given the unprecedented economic challenges brought about by the pandemic and faced by central bankers and officials all over the world.
Diokno, who also won Asia-Pacific Central Banker of the Year, is recognized by The Banker as the central banker who best managed to stimulate growth, stabilize the economy of his country and pave the road to recovery to financial stability and economic resilience even with the uncharted hurdles of the ongoing pandemic. "I am truly honored to be named The Banker's Global Central Banker of the Year. This award recognizes the effort we at the BSP have put forth over this past year — amid extraordinary challenges," said Governor Diokno.
