THE Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday said that it has approved certificates of necessity to import (CNI) for 60,000 metric tons (MT) of fish aimed at increasing supply during the the first quarter of the year and to offset the impact of Typhoon "Odette" that ravaged local fishing grounds.
In a press briefing, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said that the National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (NFARMC) convened last week. Dar said that while the NFARMC said that the country has "more than enough supply," the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported that there will be a potential deficit about 119,000 MT for the first quarter of 2022.
