ACTIVE cases in Nueva Vizcaya had ballooned to 800 on Saturday with the addition of 229 new cases, the provincial health office said on Sunday. Dr. Edwin Galapon, Nueva Vizcaya provincial health officer, said confirmed cases in the province had reached 18,522 with 17,118 recoveries and 604 deaths. Nueva Vizcaya Gov. Carlos Padilla said the new cases include 28 detainees at the provincial jail. No jail guards have been tested positive, raising suspicion that visitors of the detainees might have caused the infection. Earlier, the provincial capitol compound was locked down from January 12 to 14 for disinfection as some employees in the building had tested positive for the virus.
