INFECTIONS caused by bacteria could be treated with antibiotics. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned of a global threat, called antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites or microbes that failed to respond to antibiotics were now harder to treat, increasing the risk of disease spreading, of serious illness and even of death.
To highlight the important role of pharmacists in addressing this threat, the Philippine Society of Hospital Pharmacists (PSHP) organized the first Pharmacists' Antimicrobial Stewardship Summit in the country through its Medix platform and in partnership with Sandoz last December 5, 2021.
