THE Department of Education (DepEd) recently launched a national calisthenic exercise program, which aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and featured steps and movements from cultural dances in the Philippines.
DepEd, through the Bureau of Curriculum Development (BCD) and Special Program Division, named the program "Galaw Pilipinas: The national calisthenics exercises program." Thus, galaw symbolized the different movements from the country's treasured folk, cultural and tribal dances as well as a few stances from the national sport, arnis.
