DAVAO CITY: Around 1.16 million Davaoeños have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 since the city launched its inoculation drive last year. Based on the report from the Vaccination Cluster, Davaoeños who received anti-Covid vaccines reached a total of 2.402 million. Out of this number, 1.24 million city residents received their first dose and 1.164 million for the second dose. In a report from the City Information Office, the city, however, noted a slow turn out of booster vaccination with only 49,215 Davaoeños who availed of the third jab as an added layer of protection against Covid-19 infection. According to the city's Covid-19 Task Force spokesman Dr. Michelle Schlosser, the booster is another layer of protection and this will not hurt, especially since the city is anticipating a surge and the arrival of a variant with massive spread because Omicron, although milder, can have exponential spread.
Schlosser earlier reported that the city is already fast-tracking requests for more vaccine allocation for booster vaccination for those who opt to have a heterologous booster. Schlosser has emphasized the need for unvaccinated individuals to get vaccinated as soon as possible citing studies that vaccination could mitigate the progression of the infection to severe and critical cases. 'If you are not vaccinated there is a big possibility that it will progress into severe and critical conditions,' she said.
