THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said the Philippines is on track towards eradicating the dreaded African Swine Fever (ASF) that has massively destroyed the livelihoods of local swine raisers since the virus was first detected the country in 2020.
In a virtual briefing, DA Assistant Secretary Noel Reyes reported that the ASF virus is present in remaining 43 barangays in 16 municipalities as of end-December. This is a significant improvement from the peak ASF-affected number of barangays that has reached about 3,500 during the early outbreak two years ago.
