ON April 5, 2021, long-time government legal luminary Alexander Gesmundo took his oath as Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice to last until his mandatory retirement when he turns 70 on November 6, 2026.

Having served in the judiciary for 36 years before reaching the apex of his career, the new SC Chief Justice said that 'the coming five years will be a crucial phase in the history of our Judiciary,' as he announced a Strategic Plan for 2021 to 2026 during the virtual launch of the 'Justice Sector Reform Programme: Governance in Justice (GOJUST II)' on November 25.
