I came across a TV presentation by a news station sometime this year that had flashed a story on the developments of a newly renovated International Airport up north and its progress. This airport is the gateway to the north in the Philippines and has logged in 4 million passengers in 2014 and is expecting an average of 10 million to 12 million passengers after this pandemic, decongesting the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.
What shocked me and jerked me from my chair, and I assume the whole professional organization of architects too, was the misleading information projected on screen by the TV network on one of the designers of this newly re-built international airport. I am fully aware of the scope of works of technical professionals for buildings and at the same time also fully aware of the prime professionals for buildings. What I was surprised at was the sloppy misinformation done by the TV station projecting an unregistered and unlicensed architect as an architect involved in this newly renovated international airport! The mere information labelling wrongly the professionals and their practices only spreads the fire on seemingly illegal practices and as such is bounded by Philippine laws. Professionals depicted wrongly have also the responsibility to society to rectify the impression on them during and even after interviews with the tri-media networks and even on social media. And the TV stations have the responsibility also to society to correct mistakes. Otherwise, this is the harm done in fake news.
