PARIS: France's parliament on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) voted to make bullying at school punishable by up to three years in jail, as part of efforts to combat the scourge. The proposals, which had the support of Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer and were backed by President Emmanuel Macron's ruling coalition and the right-wing Republicans party, sailed through the lower house National Assembly by 69 votes. Five deputies on the left, skeptical of the need to create a specific offense to tackle the problem, abstained.
