Married women may now keep maiden names, drop husband's surnames under approved House bill

THE House of Representatives passed a bill on Wednesday that will allow married women to keep their maiden surnames.

House Bill 10459, which revises Article 370 of the New Civil Code of the Philippines (Republic Act 386), was ratified by a vote of 227-0. It was authored by Rep. Luis Campos Jr., Rep. Arlene Brosas, Rep. Xavier Jesus Romualdo, Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, Rep. Lawrence Fortun, Rep. Tyrone Agabas, Rep. Joy Myra Tambunting, Rep. Gabriel Bordado Jr. and Rep. Cheryl Deloso-Montala.
