A RAY OF HOPE IN SITIO MARARAG

In the foothills of Barangay Maasin in Brooke's Point, Palawan is a small community of Sitio Mararag, home to 115 families belonging to the indigenous Palaw'an tribe.

For decades the community of Mararag has been deprived of many opportunities. The people's day-to-day existence merely depends on the forest, which rarely provides them with enough resources to sustain their daily needs. The people used to make charcoal and gathered rattan for handicrafts which seldom sold because of the low demand in the market.
