Govt keeps sharp eye out for B.1.1.529

THE government is closely tracking developments concerning a newly detected Covid-19 variant in South Africa as it prepares plans to make sure it does not spread to the Philippines.

Acting Palace spokesman Karlo Alexei Nograles said in a briefing Friday that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), along with the Department of Health (DoH), is monitoring the situation and at the same time conducting genomic studies to know more about the variant B.1.1.529.
