PANAMA CITY: Five people were killed and another seven injured in a shootout early Friday morning at a nightclub near the Panamanian capital's old quarter, local prosecutor Rafael Baloyes said. Authorities believe the shootout was between rival gangs, Baloyes said at a press conference at police headquarters in Panama City. The incident began when a suspect opened fire on a group of young people chatting inside the Espacio Panama nightclub located in a populous area between the districts of San Felipe and Santa, and the group fired back, said Baloyes.
