A fisherfolk group is against the implementation of a closed fishing season, claiming it causes an artificial shortage that hurts both fisherfolk and consumers.
The Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya), in a statement, urged the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to hold off from enforcing the annual three-month ban, which is meant to stabilize domestic fish supplies and prices.
