FOR the past 17 years, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Emergency Medical Services has structured itself to be the country's top-tier service provider when it comes to giving pre-hospital care to the most vulnerable of our countrymen. Through the modernization program initiated by PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon, the PRC EMS unit now has 171 ambulance units across the country's 104 PRC Chapters.
When Senator Gordon started as chairman for the Philippine Red Cross in 2004, PRC only had two ambulance units, one of which needed to be pushed just so the engine could start. Gordon envisioned a standardized EMS system with at least one ambulance stationed at each of the chapters. Through years of committed work, PRC has slowly worked its fleet of ambulances with the support of generous funders.
