THE lackluster list of presidential candidates for the impending national elections next year, according to research consultancy firm Capital Economics, foreshadows a bleak future for the Philippines.

"The next presidential election in the Philippines is not until May, but the contest is already generating plenty of headlines with former boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao this week announcing his intention to run," it underscored in a report released over the weekend.
