Cases of rape and violence against women and children (VAWC) increased during the Covid-19 pandemic in Quezon City, prompting Mayor Josefina "Joy" Belmonte to call on victims to come out and report such abuses.
In an interview with The Manila Times, Belmonte said the local government and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will establish a unified information management system to facilitate the monitoring and hastening the investigation of VAWC cases.
