AGRICULTURE Secretary William Dar recently approved the recommendation of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) to declare the municipality of Kabayan in Benguet free from the African swine fever after no ASF infestation was reported among local hog raisers for over a year now.

Provincial veterinarian Miriam Tiongan said with the declaration, Kabayan is the first municipality in Northern Luzon to be removed from the ASF list, which could pave the way for government agencies to help in the repopulation of pigs in the municipality and stabilize the prices of pork products in the province.
