UNION Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Technology and Operations Officer and Chief Transformation Officer Henry Aguda was one of the guest speakers at RadioFinance' s recently concluded virtual roundtable titled "Scaling digital transformation amid strong regulatory impetus in the Philippines" where he discussed how migrating to the cloud has helped the bank during the Covid-19 pandemic and what others can do to ensure its proper implementation in their respective organizations.
Aguda briefly talked about the history of UnionBank's migration to the cloud, which began in 2016 right as the bank first started its digital transformation journey. Back then, the bank had its very own data centers, which kept 99 percent of its computing platform on premise. "And then, we started moving out from our physical data centers to eventually, having a cloud-first policy, where we started moving our computing packages to the cloud. And the promise of our technology team is, in two years time, we will have a cloud-only infrastructure."
