WITH more and more micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) interested to expand and innovate food products from local sources, an additional building facility for the Northern Mindanao Food Innovation Center (NMFIC) will soon rise in the University of Science and Technology in the Southern Philippines (USTP) main campus in Cagayan de Oro City.
The establishment of the NMFIC is a joint project spearheaded the Department of Science and Technology Region 10 (DoST 10) and other stakeholders such as the Department of Trade and Industry, the Food Producers' Association of Northern Mindanao and the Office of the Congressional District in the city. Owing to its growing importance and relevance, a new building will be established by USTP. DoST 10 has been supporting the Food Innovation Center through the provision of staff that handles the requirements and processing of the Food and Drug Administration license to operate. DoST 10 also provides technical consultation and services to develop food products and assists in the development of POTs.
