Ex-DSWD secretary Dinky Soliman dies at 68

FORMER Social Welfare secretary Corazon 'Dinky' Soliman died on Sunday at the age of 68. Tributes poured for the former official from her former colleagues and friends. 'Rest in peace, my dear friend. You will now be in eternal sunflower bliss. We will miss you,' former Finance secretary Cesar Purisima said. Purisima recalled it was Soliman who introduced the conditional cash transfer program in the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Vice President Maria Leonor 'Leni' Robredo said Soliman was her late husband's friend before becoming a friend of her family. 'She was the first person outside the family who knew of my decision to run for Congress, then the vice presidency,' she wrote on Facebook. 'Sec[retary] Dinky was pure of heart, humble and compassionate. The world has lost another good soul but heaven gained another angel. 'The Liberal Party of the Philippines also paid tribute to the late former secretary, saying she worked to free people from hunger and poverty. 'She was an ally of the liberal democratic cause, working tirelessly to free our people from hunger, poverty and neglect. Honest, honorable, dutiful and unifying, she brought together advocates and reformists in pursuit of their shared goals,' it said in a statement on Facebook. 'Countless Filipinos were empowered through her efforts.' Sen. Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan said the former secretary was a Covid-19 survivor. She and her husband contracted the virus in August.' Rest in peace, my dear classmate. You were an indefatigable, unsinkable fighter until the very end, Dinky,' he wrote on Twitter. 'Rest now amidst the vast and beautiful sunflower fields in Heaven.' Soliman served as Social Welfare secretary under the administrations of presidents Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Benigno Simeon 'Noynoy' Aquino 3rd. She attended Aquino's necrological service last June.
