Magnus turbine unveiled in Batanes

SANTIAGO CITY: A Magnus vertical axis wind turbine, which can provide energy supply even during typhoons, was formally opened on Wednesday at Naidi Hills in Basco, Batanes.

The first of its kind to be put up in the Philippines, the 10-kilowatt facility was designed by Challenergy to withstand strong winds and typhoons. It applies the combination of 'vertical axis,' which allows it to correspond to the omni directional wind, and 'magnus effect,' which is a lifting power generated by its rotation of vertically-set cylinders, company records said.
