FILIPINO pole vaulter Ernest John "EJ" Obiena placed fifth at the Athletissima in Lausanne, Switzerland on Friday morning (Philippine time), as he competed for the first time since finishing 11th at the Tokyo Olympics.

Obiena, who owns the national record at 5.87 meters, easily cleared the 5.42- and 5.52-meter bars but was unable to hurdle 5.62-meter height in three attempts.
