Netflix K-Drama exposes ills of mandated military service

Netflix premiered yesterday its latest original contribution to the ever-popular slew of K-drama webtoons adaptations. Titled 'D.P.,' the series is based on a Kim Bo-tong webtoon that garnered over 10 million views for its realistic portrayal of the brutal violence and human rights violations unfortunately committed in Korea's military. The story is told within a military police unit called Deserter Pursuit (D.P.), whose members are tasked to arrest soldiers who abandon their assigned posts.

In a virtual interview, the live-action adaptation's director Han Jun-hee said he placed a lot of thought in remaking the 2015 webtoon, 'D.P: Dog Days.'
