UN: Yemen situation alarming, frightening

SANAA: Senior United Nations officials on Tuesday expressed their concerns over the situation in Yemen, calling it alarming and frightening while calling on the international community to help and parties concerned to protect civilians and children, in particular, in the war-torn country.

Noting that six years of war 'overshadows everything' in the Western Asian country, UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffith told the Security Council meeting on Yemen that the war 'grinds on' including the devastating Ansar Allah offensive in Marib and clashes along nearly 50 other frontlines.

Yemen's Huthi rebels on October 14, 2020 freed two captive Americans, the White House said, in what was reported to be a swap in which Saudi Arabia freed some of the group's supporters. The United States welcomes the release today of US citizens Sandra Loli and Mikael Gidada from Huthi custody in Yemen, Robert O'Brien, the national security advisor, said in a statement.
