Gov denies Covid patients' upsurge in Tarlac hospital

TARLAC: Gov. Susan Yap made a clarification on a surge of alleged Covid-19 patients at the Tarlac Provincial Hospital (TPH) and strongly denied the patients had contracted the disease, contrary to what netizens were speculating.

In a statement on Friday, Yap said the Covid-19 situation in the province remains under control and described as malicious viral posts circulating on social media showing the state of the alleged Covid-19 patients.

According to the governor, the parking lot where the provincial government had put up tents serves as the triage area.

The viral posts, Yap said, were implying the patients in that area were all suffering from Covid-19.

Before getting admitted to the TPH, a negative RT-PCR result is required to protect both patients and medical frontliners in the facility, she added.

The governor pointed out 'it was not only Covid season for the past months but also [a time when] dengue [was] on the rise due to the rains,' and thus the alleged surge.

Yap said there is a separate entrance for Covid-19 patients.

The TPH has 450-bed capacity, allotting 225 beds for severe and critical cases.

'We have been working hard to meet the demands of the pandemic through our vaccine rollouts, financial aid, our Department of Health-accredited testing lab, assistance for locally stranded individuals hoping to return home, 'Bakuna sa Barangay para sa Senior Citizens,' among others,' Yap said.

She added the provincial government is doing its best to provide the needs of Tarlac families, assuring all necessary measures are taken to stabilize the Covid-19 and other situations.

'Our frontliners also get exhausted. We have no unlimited resources. What I ask for now is unity and your cooperation,' Yap told Tarlac residents.
