ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Philippine Navy rescued 18 passengers of a motorboat, battered by huge waves and strong winds while sailing to Basilan province from the southern province of Sulu on Sunday, officials said on Monday.

Col. Hernani Songano, commander of the Naval Task Group-Sulu and the 4th Marine Brigade, said the passengers of the MB Bongarita – 12 adults and six minors – were taken to a hospital in Sulu's Luuk town for medical examination after the Sunday rescue.
