TOKYO has extended a ¥253-billion, about $2.3 billion, loan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the construction of Manila's first subway.

The Japanese Embassy in Manila said the subway will be the Philippines' first underground railway system. Its construction began in February 2019 and is funded by the government of Japan.
