Build, Build, Build projects usher in golden age of infrastructure

Following President Duterte's sweeping victory in the 2016 elections, his administration immediately laid down its centerpiece program that aimed to usher the country into the so-called 'Golden Age of Infrastructure' by spending about P9 trillion for roads, bridges, and transportation systems for the past five years and until his term ends in 2022.

The ambitious program gave birth to the government's Build, Build, Build (BBB) project that seeks to accelerate public infrastructure expenditure to about 7.3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) at the end of the Duterte administration, from an average of 2.9 percent spent by the previous administration.

According to the Congressional Policy and Budget Research Department (CPBRD), the BBB program aims to address the country's lack of infrastructure to hasten economic development that has long been cited as a major hindrance to the overall economic development of the Philippines.
