LATELY, top US government officials from President Joe Biden to Secretary of State Antony Blinken have been profuse in their reiteration of a hollow assurance that an imagined armed attack by China against the Philippines will trigger the inutile 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT).
Blinken said the US "would invoke" the treaty in case of any Chinese military action against Philippine assets in the South China Sea.
