At 7:52 p.m. on May 5, 2020, ABS-CBN network signed off after airing the national anthem and naming its engineers and its TV stations. The shutdown covered five AM stations 18 FM stations and 42 TV stations, leaving an estimated 11,000 workers without jobs. The hearing for the beleaguered media network's bid for a new franchise was held on July 10, 2020, and an overwhelming majority of members from the House of Representatives voted against the application at 70-11.
