OCTA: Return to stricter quarantine vs Delta

UPDATED: 1:00 AM. JULY 18, 2021

THE head of the independent OCTA Research group proposed a rollback in the easing of restrictions against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) after its more transmissible Delta variant was detected in the Philippines.

In a phone interview with The Manila Times on Saturday, Professor Ranjit Rye said the general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions that was enforced previously in the National Capital Region (NCR) and its so-called bubble in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal should be reimposed.

At least 16 individuals were reported to have contracted the variant, 11 of whom were locally infected. Metro Manila is currently under GCQ without restrictions from July 16 to 31, but the government continues to remind the public to observe health protocols such as the wearing of face masks and physical distancing.
