Much has been said about the shaky relationship between Gilas program director/head coach Tab Baldwin and the PBA. With every Gilas victory, whether actual or moral, there would be trends such as "No PBA, no problem." However, a tough loss like the last one at the hands of the Dominican Republic can send the high hopes back to Earth.
The key here is balance. Yes, the PBA has the best current talent (sure, Gilas may end up more talented than the current PBA stars, but they have yet to reach the peak of their potential) and the experience or "gulang" the young Gilas boys don't have. However, I do admire Coach Baldwin standing his ground and refusing to take last-minute additions, even if they are the talented veterans from the PBA.
