THE Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) office of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) recently turned over several food-processing tools and equipment to a kakanin (sticky rice snacks) producing group in the island municipality of Jomalig, Quezon.
Among the equipment received by the Jomalig Food Processors Association (JFPA), an organization composed mostly of mothers making and selling kakanin, were a grain-and-vegetable grinder, a cassava shredder, a coconut grater, a coconut-milk presser, an upright freezer, cooking utensils and stainless steel working tables.
