THE University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has announced the appointment of Dr. Stephen Acabado, associate professor of the Department of Anthropology, as the new director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) of UCLA International Institute.
An eminent archaeological anthropologist interested in human environment interaction and indigenous responses to colonialism, Acabado's research focused on the archaeology of highland agricultural systems in Southeast Asia, specifically on the Ifugao rice terraces in Northern Philippines. He currently has active research programs in Indigenous Taiwan, and in Bicol and Ifugao in the Philippines.
