LPA develops into tropical depression

THE low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar developed into a tropical depression at 8 a.m. on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

It is moving northwestward at 25 kilometers per hour (km/h), with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center.

Tropical depression Emong is expected to continue moving northwestward until tomorrow morning.

'In the anticipation of the arrival of strong winds caused by 'Emong', Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) #1 is now in effect over Batanes and some localities in Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands,' the weather bureau said.

The center of the tropical depression may traverse the Batanes-Babuyan Islands area between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, another LPA was seen in the vicinity of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

It is not likely to develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours, but with the combined effects of the southwest monsoon, it may bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains in Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Northern Quezon including Polillo Islands, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Palawan including Calamian Islands, Mindoro Provinces, and Antique.
