Productivity growth in the domestic corn industry increased by 11.45 percent due to the adoption of genetically modified (GM) corn, a study claimed, with farmers taking advantage of higher incomes from increased yields.
The "Economic Assessment of GM Corn Use in the Philippines" study said that some 460,000 Filipino farming families had gained economically from adopting GM corn, with the area planted to the crop having expanded to 835,000 hectares from first regulatory approval in 2002.
