Growing up in the paddy fields of Nueva Ecija, Candy Bautista Esmundo heard all the possible puns connected with her name, with different iterations of 'Ang tamis naman ng pangalan mo!' (your name is so sweet). She recalls: 'People always thought that my name was a joke. I laughed along with them, but deep inside, I thought to myself, of all the names in the world, why this?'

Now, with her pastillas (traditional Filipino sweets) business making P300,000 a week, she realizes that this was destined all along.
