Filipino golfer Juvic Pagunsan has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.
Pagunsan, 43, made the cut after reaching No. 50 in the men's Olympic golf rankings where 60 of the world's top golfers advanced to the quadrennial meet.
The deadline for the men's Olympic qualification was on Monday, June 21, and the International Golf Federation was set to officially announce the final men's rankings at 3 p.m Swiss time or 9 p.m Philippine time on Tuesday.
Pagunsan's conquest of the Gate Way To The Open Mizuno Open in Japan last May was what gave him enough points to climb the Olympic rankings.
Pagunsan is the 13th Filipino athlete to qualify for the Olympics, joining boxers Eumir Marcial, Carlo Paalam, Nesthy Petecio, and Irish Magno; weightlifters Elreen Ando and Rio Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz, pole vaulter EJ Obiena,
rower Cris Nievarez, gymnast Carlos Yulo, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, skateboarder Margielyn Didal, and rifle shooter Jayson Valdez.
Although not yet official, golfer Yuka Saso is also assured of a berth for the Tokyo Olympics.
