Covid surge in Dumaguete City 'serious' - OCTA

Dumaguete City is seeing a 'serious surge' in Covid-19 cases and is now in the 'extremely high risk' category, according to OCTA Research.

The city has emerged as the area of most serious concern outside the so-called NCR (National Capital Region) plus bubble.

In its June 14 update, the Negros Oriental provincial capital registered 95 new cases during the week of June 7 to 13, a 129 percent higher than the 42 cases reported in the previous week. Its average daily attack rate (ADAR) increased to 69.85 cases per 100,000 population.

The cities of Iloilo, Butuan and Tacloban, as well as the municipality of Polomolok in South Cotabato are also considered areas of concern because of their increasing Covid numbers.

OCTA said that the cities of Tagum, Legazpi, and Tagbilaran were also Covid hotspots, or areas with rapid one-week growth rates or very high attack rates.

The cities of Davao, Iloilo, General Santos, Tuguegarao and Koronadal are still experiencing critical intensive care unit (ICU) bed capacity, with Tuguegarao and Koronadal having full ICU bed capacity.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that aside from regions 6,7,8 and the whole of Mindanao, areas in Northern Luzon are being monitored by the Department of Health due to the increasing number of cases.
