THOUSANDS of communist rebels have surrendered since President Rodrigo Duterte took office, weakening many guerilla fronts, according to the Defense department's Task Force Balik-Loob (TFBL).
Since 2016, 17,958 rebels have surrendered, Navy Capt. Ferdinand Buscato of the TFBL said. Of these, 3,684 were regular members of the New People's Army, the armed group of the Communist Party of the Philippines and 2,039 were from the Militia ng Bayan.
