THE contraction of the Philippine manufacturing sector softened in May as operating conditions inched toward stabilization, results of the latest IHS Markit survey revealed.

In a report on Tuesday, IHS Markit said the purchasing managers' index (PMI) went up to 49.9 in May from 49.0 in April, posting just below the 50.0 neutral value that separates expansion from contraction.
