For more than half a century, the communist insurgency in the Philippines waged by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) is one of the world's longest running. The longevity of this movement does not lend to its legitimacy any more than it raises its prospects for success. Rather, its continued existence owes much to a misplaced militaristic fixation on physical elimination when the enemy is more ideational. This said, 52 years showed the Filipino people does not and will never support the insurgent cause, more so its violent and protracted means of armed struggle.
