House OKs amendments to Charter's economic provisions on 2nd reading

THE House of Representatives approved on second reading the Resolution of Both Houses 2 (RBH 2), which proposes amendments to certain economic provisions of the Constitution.

RBH 2 seeks to add the phrase 'unless otherwise provided by law' to specified economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.

Lawmakers, voting via voice vote, approved on Wednesday the resolution, as amended, on second reading.

Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda, an economist and a principal sponsor of the RBH 2, hailed the approval on second reading.

Salceda repeated his assurance that the House has no plans of introducing political provisions to the proposed revisions.

'RBH 2 is pure economic reform. We know and understand that any political charter change will be dead on arrival,' he said.
