Comedy Concert Queen Ai-Ai de las Alas is back to making music but believe it or not, her latest is a song about siomai.
The new single is titled 'Siomai (What?)' to be exact, precisely because listeners will definitely wonder what it's all about.
What then has de las Alas singing about the Asian dumpling? Does she just plain love the taste of it? The answer to that is yes based on the lyrics alone as the Comedy Queen half sings and half raps the verses, 'Fried man or steam, basta merong toyo, kalamansi saka sili, para medyo may anghang, para pag kinain 'to mas malinamnam.'
Or is there a deeper meaning to the song? Because from the way she sings it, it seems like her siomai is out of this world. 'Ang sarap kainin ng favorite kong siomai, lalo pag mainit 'di na makapaghintay, 'di ko mapigilan ang sarili ko sa siomai kasi, what? Sarap ay pamatay,' the fun and curious ditty goes on.
'Wala lang, para masaya lang di'ba?' laughed the TV and movie star at the digital media launch of Siomai (What?) this week. Already available across music platforms Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube, it comes as no surprise that the single dropped along with an official music video that sees the artist in TikTok-worthy choreography. And again all because delas Alas just wants to lighten the mood.
Over a year into the pandemic and with most everyone choosing to remain in lockdown, the Comedy Queen is not about to come up with hugot song. Aware how the public looks to entertainment for regular breathers amid difficult times, she deems it right to give them something they can let loose to.
'Kantahan and sayawan lang, go! Let's do this,' is her very tempting invitation to join her and do the Siomai.
Why ever not?
