Inoculation of PH athletes to start Friday

Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Bambol Tolentino announced on Tuesday the inoculation of Covid-19 vaccines for the country's delegates for the 2021 Vietnam Southeast Asian Games (Seag) and Tokyo Olympics will begin on Friday at the Manila Prince Hotel.

Tolentino made the announcement in the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) online forum, adding the vaccination starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

'We all know the prioritization of vaccination for the Philippine delegates for the Southeast Asian Games and Tokyo Olympics has been approved. The vaccination day on Friday has also been permitted,' said Tolentino.

'This is in relation to Vietnam's 'no vaccination, no participation' policy so we are grateful to the national government that our request has been accepted,' the Philippine Cycling chief added.

Tolentino added the POC is now in the process of identifying the athletes that will be inoculated. Para-athletes are included as well.

Athletes, coaches and officials bound for the Olympics in July as well as the partial list of the Philippine delegation in the Southeast Asian Games in Metro Manila will be prioritized.

Only the partial list from the Philippine delegation for the Seag will be inoculated for now, since there will still be tryouts for each of the national teams. Meanwhile, the national athletes, coaches and officials from the provinces and abroad will be the second batch to be inoculated with the vaccines.

Tolentino furthered POC is not inclined to do an information drive for the Philippine delegation anymore, saying it's no brainer for the athletes, coaches and officials to take the vaccines, which brands aren't announced, since it's for the protection of themselves and their families.
