THE Department of Transportation announced the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-1 Cavite extension project is now 55.6 percent complete. According to DoTr, the project was approved by the National Economic Development Authority on Aug. 25, 2000, but was delayed for almost two decades. Once operational, the 11.7-kilometer railway line is expected to cut travel time between Baclaran in Parañaque and Bacoor in Cavite from one hour and 10 minutes down to 25 minutes. The LRT-1 Cavite extension is also seen to accommodate 500,000 to 800,000 passengers per day.
