THE term “dumbbell” in relation to school became popular because of the video entitled “Thesis Rant’ from the short film “VinCentiments” about a student taking online classes and encountering problems while trying to deliver a report. The video showed a teacher talking with a student, whose name was not included in the group’s thesis. The teacher asked the student if this was her group and who the group’s leader was. Upon finding the leader, the teacher asked why she did not input the name of her classmate in their thesis. Afterwards, the leader went into rant, blaming her classmate for being an irresponsible member of the group and metaphorically comparing her to a “dumbbell” that has to be lifted. Also, the leader described her classmate as a “pa-victim.” However, those rants from the leader turn out to be just imaginary. The video ended with the group still being asked to finish their report by their teacher.

Many students can relate to this short video because of their similar experiences from that scenario.
